Today, on 20.01.2022, the 8th Annual International Conference “Smart Mobility – The Future of Sustainable and Green Transport” was held, organized by “Tempulli” and AMRKS, supported by the Kosovo Insurance Bureau, which convened more than 20 local and international experts in the field of Transport and Traffic.

The director of “Tempulli”, Mr. Muhamed Krasniqi opened the conference by thanking the participants for their contribution and the media for promoting the activities of the Tempulli and AMRKS, while emphasizing the importance of organizing such academic and professional conferences.

Mr. Krasniqi emphasized that for a greater traffic safety, every effort should be made to introduce new technologies, to make the movement more convenient in the city, cost effective for the city and for road users.

“The citizen, being always in the center of attention, should direct his actions to the interconnection of the four pillars on which a smart city is built, such as: Social Infrastructure, Physical Infrastructure, Institutional Infrastructure (including Governance) and Economic Infrastructure. The creation of roads and spaces intended for walking, cycling and the use of public transport will play a major role in achieving this goal because the legal limits of air quality will be met by relying on renewable energy sources, said the Director of the Tempulli, Mr. Muhamed Krasniqi.

Lieutenant Colonel Jeton Rexhepi, director of the Traffic Division of the Kosovo Police, has shown the reasons for the fatal accidents. He said that in 2021, 111 people lost their lives because of accidents. The death toll per 1 million inhabitants in 2021 is 63. As far as the human factor is concerned, remains the reason for not keeping distance in traffic. “The issue of the diaspora is that we have made an analysis and based on the figures obtained, the number of vehicles has been much higher in 2021 in traffic with external signs than with RKS,” he said.

Mr. Gunther Felingher, member of the Board of the Kosovo Association of Motorization (AMRKS) – Kosovo, requested that during 2030 only electric vehicles be in traffic and also the data to be exchanged with the authorities of the European Union in order to stop irregularities and accidents in Kosovo.

Director of the Kosovo Insurance Bureau, Mr. Sami Mazreku, said that in 2021 over 400 thousand insurance policies have been issued. He said that arrivals in Kosovo also cause accidents. Mr. Mazreku also unveiled the plans for digitalization, which aim to support the police and the Ministry of Interior to facilitate reports and procedures.

Meanwhile prof. Mevlan Bixhaku from “Tempulli” talked about the current situation of Pristina as a wise city, showing the potential and setbacks that have been encountered in the implementation of the Sustainable Mobility plan.

Mr. Bixhaku emphasized that according to the current situation, the concrete implementation of the Plan is very deficient, where so far only a few paths for cyclists have been built, but which have no functional connection with other parts of the city.

He said that there are two projects that do function to some extent in the Municipality of Prishtina, and they are the application of Urban Traffic lines and the Easy Park Mobile project, which enables payment for parking by phone.

Nora Hasani from the German – Kosovan Economic Chamber presented the findings of the study “International Road transport of goods in Kosovo”, which presents relevant information on the state of international road transport of goods in Kosovo, Kosovo’s membership in relevant international organizations and the difficulties faced by this sector.

Mrs. Hasani also presented the recommendations arising from this report which are also addressed to relevant institutions such as application for registration in the Council of Bureaux (green card), reaching bilateral agreements for the recognition of Kosovar driver’s licenses, to work on the recognition of registration plates by Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina and to apply international conventions and agreements regulating the issue of international transport of goods.
